
The United States and South Korea jointly conducted military exercisein Pocheon inthe north-eastern region of Gyeonggi province in South Korea as the Korean peninsula continued to simmer over North Korea's missile tests conducted last week.
The drill was conducted in South Korea's Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) with 700 troops. The military manoeuvreswere aimed to prepare the military to "to fight tonight" against North Korea.
The battalion commander of the US second armored brigade, Rob Kimmel told Reuters: "We are continuing to train and be ready for any potential situation that may arise."
"This is a kind of a pinnacle training event for a battalion size unit and so, you know, a battalion during a year here will only do one of these types of situations during that one rotation," Kimmel added.
On Monday, South Korea's defense ministry had the US had flown four F-35 stealth fighter jets and two B1-B bombers over the Korean peninsula in a military drill.
US President Donald Trump speaking at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday had said the United States will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea", adding "Rocket Man is on a suicide mission".
Last Friday, North Korea had fired a ballistic missile over Japan in less than a month even as the United Nations Security Council(UNSC) imposed new sanctions to deter the country's ballistic and nuclear missile programme.
